Gabrielle Abdelmessih, Editor-in-Chief

Gabrielle Abdelmessih is the editor-in-chief of  The Oakland Post. She is a senior majoring in biomedical sciences and minoring in journalism. One might not think that those two subject areas have much in common, but in Abdelmessih’s view, they both share a reliance on verifiable truth, a passion for discovering the unknown, and a goal to improve the human experience.

With a love of science and writing, Abdelmessih began writing for the post, first as a contributor, then as a staff reporter in the winter of 2021. Abdelmessih worked as campus editor for the 2021-2022 academic year and was selected to be the 2022-2023 editor-in-chief in the spring.

She is also a columnist for The Post, starting the newspaper’s first public health column, “A Grizzly’s Guide to a Healthier Y(OU),” that is dedicated to discussing health topics and how they relate to college students.

From writing a review of the hit television show “Bridgerton” to covering Covid-19 vaccine distribution on campus, Abdelmessih considers her time thus far at The Post as a unique and gratifying learning process. She looks forward to continuing her roles as editor-in-chief and columnist in the year ahead and to making The Oakland Post the best that it can be for the Oakland University community.

Abdelmessih is a member of the OU Honors College as well as president and co-founder of the Health Disparities Awareness Club at Oakland University. Her career aspirations are to become a physician and medical news correspondent.

She is an avid reader and skier who enjoys traveling, cooking, and spending time with her dogs.
