The Oakland Post

Cayla Smith, Campus Editor

Cayla Smith is the campus editor at The Oakland Post. She is a senior majoring in journalism, and will attend Syracuse University for her master’s in public relations.

As campus editor, Smith writes one story per week, edits stories and mentors the reporters in her section.

She fell in love with journalism as a kid, and handmade newspapers to pass out to her family and friends. Along the way, she also fell in love with public relations after realizing that you can still be a storyteller through visuals.

She hopes to move to New York City and work in entertainment public relations once she graduates.

She plans to work for NPR, HBO, Netflix and other networks and streaming services.

She is currently a part of Leadership OU’s 2020-2021 Cohort, vice president of the Feminists of OU and a digital communications assistant at the Detroit City Council’s president’s office.

Within the president’s office, she designs and writes the weekly newsletter, creates social media content, created, co-wrote and produced a show for Black history month, schedules social content and manages a team of interns.
