OU network unavailable due to maintenance

Oakland University’s electrical systems have been receiving an upgrade since June 19 to a more modern system technically and mechanically. Between 12:01 a.m. June 27 and 6 a.m. June 29, the university’s Web system and network access was unavailable.

“Our support informed us that the equipment will no longer be maintainable and needs to be replaced,” Director of Systems Engineering Stephen Glowacki said. “Basically this is building maintenance which is necessary due to the age of the equipment.”

Glowacki said the newer equipment is more energy efficient and more easily monitored.

While the work currently being performed does not affect the systems, this weekend will bring network downtime during the switch. Students should plan around being unable to access campus based network systems for the weekend, including Moodle and SAIL.
