State receives funding for rural transportation

LANSING — Michigan received $524,000 with a continuance of the Federal Recovery Act. According to the Michigan Department of Transportation, the money will come in the form of a Flex Funds Grant and will go toward numerous small transport agencies in 13 counties.

The much-needed money will give bus agencies the chance to buy items such as maintenance equipment, computers, vehicles, tires, bike racks and surveillance equipment. This money from the Recovery Act will also go toward updating of transportation systems.

Detailed information on the use of the funds is available at michigan.gov/mdot.
