‘Oz’ calls for students, actors
Grab your ruby red slippers, Disney’s “Oz: The Great and Powerful” is holding an open casting call for extras on June 11.
The casting is for adult extras 18 and older and will be held from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. at Raleigh Studios in Pontiac.
Applicants should bring a current photo of themselves that can be left with the casting agents.
Karen Sheridan, a professor of theatre, thought that the casting would be a great experience for students.
“Everything that makes you better at being in front of the camera — terminology, expectations, scheduling, technical things that come up,” Sheridan said.
According to Sheridan, one of the main benefits can be seeing your favorite actors at work and learn from them.
“If the leads are good actors or people you admire, you get to see them ‘at work’ and learn from watching them,” Sheridan said.
Being an extra can be both time consuming and tiring, but it is a priceless experience, she said.
“There’s a lot of standing (and) sitting around in film and TV work,” Sheridan said. “It pays very little and takes a bunch of time, but you can’t get the experience anywhere else.
“Oz: The Great and Powerful” stars James Franco as Oz, Mila Kunis, Zach Braff and Michelle Williams, among many others. The film will be a prequel surrounding how the wizard came to be the great and powerful ruler.
Raleigh Studios is located at 1999 Centerpoint Parkway in Pontiac, Mich. For more information about casting, call 310-225-5196.
