Oakland University has approximately 170 construction and maintenance projects going on over the summer and into next year.

In addition to the medical health building, which is expected to be completed by the beginning of the fall semester, projects include mechanical upgrades, more parking spaces and a new fountain in Beer Lake.

“The most important job is finishing the medical health building,” Terry Stollsteimer, associate vice president of facilities management, said. “The two biggest projects going on are a curtain wall over at O’Dowd Hall that will take about nine months, as well as mechanical upgrades in several buildings (like)  Pawley, O’Dowd, Varner and Dodge.”

According to Stollsteimer, OU is also getting a new sign at the entrance of University Dr. and Squirrel Rd. in front of the roundabout. It is expected to be three times the size of the current sign and more pronounced.

The road repairs are already underway in front of the Nicholson student apartments on Meadowbrook Road and near parking lot 17, which is by the athletic building. Currently, all the roads are open, but some will be closed eventually for the construction.

“At times when we do road repairs there will be signs to redirect traffic,” Stollsteimer said.

According to Randy Drewry, supervisor of grounds maintenance, Beer Lake has received a makeover on May 31, in the form of fountains being placed in.

“We ordered new fountains because the old ones were having some issues,” Drewry said. “The new fountains should be larger and we can maybe even get some lights working on them if everything goes well.”

The new fountains are now working on Beer Lake, but no lights are installed yet.
