EDITORIAL: All fun and games in Vice Presidential debate

First fact, the “first and only” vice presidential debate was more entertaining than the first presidential debate simply because Martha Raddatz wasn’t for any games.

Although this was her first time being a moderator, she knew what type of questions to ask the candidates and that says a lot in comparison to Jim Lehror — who moderated the first presidential debate.

Besides asking the right questions, Raddatz also knew when to steer the topic to something else. She also seemed to be very educated on the topics of discussion.

When the candidates decided they didn’t want to answer a question in its entirety, she asked them to be “more specific.” If a candidate tried to leave out facts, she corrected them and then gave them a chance to correct themselves. Raddatz truly represented many of us — Americans who simply want answers.

The debate

There is an obvious age difference between Vice President Joe Biden and Congressman Paul Ryan. Biden at 69 and Ryan at 42, looked something like a father and son in an argument. Ryan was aggressive, and Biden didn’t take anything Ryan said seriously. The Cheshire cat grin on Biden’s face during most of the debate showed us that. It was as if he was saying “Young man, you don’t know what you’re talking about? Go back to the playground.”

Biden’s grinning and laughing showed Ryan he could be just as aggressive and intimidating as him

It seems to me, that both candidates like to play the blame game. I witnessed the use of scare tactics, teasing and temper tantrums such as when Biden says “I hope I get as much time to talk as him” when referring to Ryan.

Both candidates threw temper tantrums, but about different things. I think I was most surprised with some of the secrets that were spilled such as Ryan asking for  stimulus funds to create jobs in Wisconsin, though he’s been seen criticizing President Obama on this very subject many times.

It got really serious when the subject of abortion came about — this is another topic for another day.

The politician’s all claim to want to fix the economy and do what’s best for Americans, but in my opinion it seems like everyone just wants their cut and to control people’s lives.

I really enjoyed the debate and I look forward to watching the remaining presidential debates.
