Reported domestic assault in Hamlin Circle

On Dec. 8 at approximately 8 p.m., two Oakland University Police Officers were dispatched to Hamlin Circle near Van Wagoner House in response to a reported fight between a member of OU’s basketball team and his girlfriend. Police searched the area for the couple but could not locate them.

Police received the male’s contact information and then called him to discuss the incident. The student confirmed he had an argument with his girlfriend, but said there was no assault involved.

Approximately 15 minutes later, police met with the female student to discuss the incident. The female student told police that earlier, her boyfriend was looking through her phone and noticed she was talking to other males. According to the student, the two got into a verbal argument that eventually led out into Hamlin Circle.

The female said her boyfriend knocked her phone out of her hand and it fell to the ground and broke. She said she then attempted to smack her boyfriend, but said she did not make contact because he pushed her away. She said the two then separated and no assault occurred.

Police returned to Police and Support Services to review video footage of the area where the incident took place. After reviewing the footage, police returned to the Van Wagoner House to place the female student under arrest. The student was then processed and taken to Oakland County Jail for lodging.

After police contacted the male student, he arrived at Police and Support Services at approximately 11:25 p.m. with one of his basketball coaches. The male student was placed under arrest and told police what happened earlier that evening.

The student said he tried to knock his girlfriend’s cell phone from her hand and she attempted to hit him. He said he grabbed her and kept telling her to calm down.

According to the student, his girlfriend kept trying to hit him so he grabbed her and pulled her down to the ground in Hamlin Circle. He said afterward they talked and then separated.

The male student was then processed into the OUPD system.

 

Damaged property in the Human Health Building

On Dec. 11 at approximately 12:35 a.m., an employee of Campus Cleaning said he found a large dent in the trash can outside of the main elevators on the fourth floor of the Human Health Building.

Police met with the employee who said earlier that night, he heard a female talking loudly about a bad grade or exam while she was on the fourth floor of the building. The employee said he then heard a loud bang.

Police reviewed security footage and observed two females talking for a short time before 10:30 p.m. The video showed the suspect approach the elevators, punch the wall and then kick the trash can causing damage. After the student kicked the trash can, two other females and a male approached her and then enter the elevator.

 

Student issued citation for liquor transportation and marijuana use

On Dec. 11 at 12:15 p.m., police initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Pioneer and Library Drive after a vehicle rolled through a stop sign.

Police approached the vehicle and made contact with the male driver. Police noticed the smell of marijuana inside the vehicle, but the student denied the smell. Police then observed an open bottle of whiskey sticking out from underneath the driver’s seat. The student then admitted to having small bag of marijuana in his shoe and handed it police. The student gave police consent to search his vehicle and also admitted to having “pot cookies” in his trunk.

Police asked the driver and the two male passengers to get out of the vehicle. While searching, police located the cookies and a pipe in the front passenger seat floor, a grinder in the center console and another pipe in the back seat.

The driver was issued a citation for having an open container of alcohol and marijuana use, and the passengers were also issued a citation for marijuana use.
