Still as metal as always

Chart topping metal band In Flames will be playing the Machine Shop in Flint on Feb. 26.

You may recognize In Flames from their Guitar Hero tracks, however today, they have sold over 2.5 million albums.

The band has topped the charts in over 15 countries worldwide, but they’ve got more than that on their roster. Two Swedish Metal Awards, three Bandit Rock Awards and a Metalhammer Golden God from 2008 sum up this band’s success.

It all started with a three track demo mailed to Wrong Again Records in 1993, at that time there were only three members of the band, none of whom belong to In Flames today.

Even with the comings and goings of members, the band has managed to stay true and continue devouring all others in their wake.

In Flames won four Grammis (the Swedish equivalent of the Grammy Awards) in various categories including Best International Band and Best Hard Rock/ Metal Album. Their latest Grammis award was given in 2009 for “Best Hard Rock” for their album A Sense of Purpose.

When In Flames won the Swedish Export Award (their second Grammi), they were publicly thanked by the then Swedish economy minister who said, “Thanks to In Flames, Sweden now have a metal band in the absolute world elite.”

Formed in 1990 in Gothenburg, Sweden by Jesper Strömblad, In Flames stands the test of time and has greatly increased their following throughout the years.

They began as a Death Metal band, but as of late their music has mellowed compared to the sound they started off with. In Flames has expanded and morphed it’s sound based on their personal growth and maturity.

“People got used to it. It’s not shocking” said drummer  Daniel Svensson, about his current sound. “It was like, as we got older we have families and we changed so it’s natural that the music changed.”

In Flames will play along with All Shall Perish, Demon Hunter and Battlecross, doors open at 7 p.m. For more information or ticket prices go to http://www.themachineshop.info/
