Career Services to host internship mixer

A Career Services Internship Mixer will take place Feb. 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Banquet Rooms of the Oakland Center. The event will provide students with the chance to meet and talk with potential employers.

The Internship Mixer will provide guidance to students looking to get themselves and their resumes out there. Fifty companies have signed up to mingle with the students of Oakland University.

Margo Baetens, who oversees the internship program at Allied-THA, said interns should be willing to work hard on every task they are given.

“Our intern duties change day-to-day based on the projects we are working on,” Baetens said.

Mickey Guisewite, executive director of The Bottomless Toychest, a non-profit organization serving pediatric cancer patients in Michigan hospitals, said the interns who are most successful at the organization are industrious, eager, resourceful and willing to jump in and do whatever is needed.

“In my prior experience as a trainee, I found that getting along and not being timid were helpful,” Jay Wiencko, executive director, CMNtv, said. “Not being afraid to work or make mistakes, but being eager to improve makes all the difference.”

The Mixer is free and open to all majors and light refreshments will be served.
