An attempted sexual assault reported on Oakland University’s campus Saturday has been proven untrue after an investigation by the OUPD.

The OUPD released a statement to all students Tuesday saying “no assault or any other crime occurred.”

According to the statement, the OUPD is now internally investigating the reason for filing the report.

“We are certainly relieved to have this issue resolved in the manner it was,” Oakland University Police Chief Samuel Lucido told the Oakland Post Tuesday.

“I’m also pleased to reassure our campus community that Oakland University remains a very safe place.”

The allegedly false report was received by the OUPD after a student said she was attacked on her way to eat lunch in Vandenberg Hall around noon Saturday.

In her report, she claimed that a man asked her for money then grabbed her and pulled down her pants and his own.

She reported that she then stomped on the assailant’s foot and dug her nails in to his arm until he let her go and she ran away.

Within hours of receiving the report, the OUPD posted alert flyers around campus including a composite sketch of the alleged attacker.

They also utilized a mass e-mail system to alert students of a possible sexual predator on Oakland’s campus.

When asked whether the woman who filed the report would face consequences, Lucido said that the matter was being reviewed internally.Â
