The Blitz for April 19, 2016

Softball (9-21, 4-4)

W 6-5 at Eastern Michigan: Sarah Hartley went 2-for-3 and got 2 RBIs and one run. Laura Pond pitched 1 ⅓ to get her first career save. Haley Zemmer pitched 5 ⅔ without allowing an earned run. She got the win.

L 3-2 vs. Detroit: Mikayela Marciniak went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a double. Zemmer pitched seven and got six strikeouts.

L 6-2 vs. Detroit: Detroit out-hit Oakland 10 to 5. Hartley and Abbey Walewski scored Oakland’s two runs off of Marciniak and Kelsie Swanson’s RBIs.

W 7-2 vs. Detroit: Oakland out-hit Detroit 10 to 4. Hartley got three RBI’s, Carah Pletscher got two and Kaley Waalkes and Brittney Miller both got one. With her 19th-career home run, Hartley is now No. 1 on Oakland’s list for that stat.

Baseball (14-13, 5-4)

W 17-0 vs. Olivet: Zach Sterry went 3-for-5 with five RBIs and a home run. It was Oakland’s second shutout this season and pushed the win streak to six, which was broken the next game.

Men’s golf

6th overall (+62) at Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational: Jake Kneen finished the first day tied for eighth (+5) out of 72 participants and finished the tournament tied for ninth (+8).

Tennis (10-9, 3-5)

W 7-0 vs. Valparaiso: Tamara Blum 2-6, 6-3, (10-7); Elizabeth Guy 6-2, 6-4; Karine Celis 7-5, 7-6 (15-13); Daria Artamonova 6-2, 6-1; Sofia Borcuti 6-4, 6-0; Juliana Guevara 6-0, 6-2.

W 4-3 vs. UIC: Oakland ended UIC’s six-game league-play win streak. It was senior day. Daria Artamonova 7-6, 7-6; Tamara Blum 6-2, 6-3; Karine Celis 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.
