From the outside, this appears to be just another house. The beige walls and forest green shutters do little to distinguish it from any other building. Upon closer inspection, however, this small building in downtown Washington DC is actually the former home of my crush.

It’s true, I’ve got it bad, as my grandmother would say, I’ve got a huge crush on James Madison. Yes, I mean the James Madison, as in the fourth President from 1809-1817. What? You’ve never heard of him? That’s alright- very few actually have.

Anyways, back to my crush. He’s known as the ‘Father of the Constitution’ and is pretty much amazing. Well, I believe so, at least. Approximately 10% of my days are now spent trying to convince my peers –and random strangers, I won’t lie- why James Madison deserves recognition.

First are his contributions to the passage of the Constitution. He, along with Alexander Hamilton and John Jay, penned the Federalist Papers, a series of essays written to convince states to ratify the Constitution. Spoiler Alert- the Papers worked, and the document was adopted in 1787.

In addition, Madison served as an influential member of the first Continental Congress. In the Congress, he wrote the first set of amendments to the Constitution, which became known as the Bill of Rights.

In summary, I love James Madison. A 200-year age gap won’t stop my love, and I’m convinced that he is, quite possibly, the most important person in all of American history. Then again, I might be a little biased.
