What’s on tap: Road Trip Primer
The Oakland University men’s basketball team (9-7) will take its perfect 3-0 conference record on the road this week, with a pair of games against Oral Roberts and Centenary College.
Coming off of a significant win over IUPUI on Saturday, the Grizzlies are riding a three-game winning streak, the longest of the season.
Oakland also carries a 10-game regular season winning streak against Summit League foes.
The team will travel to Tulsa, Okla. Thursday to take on Oral Roberts (8-7) at the Mabee Center, where the Grizzlies lost their last nine games.
The game will be televised on www.espn360.com beginning at 8 p.m.
OU will then travel to Shreveport, La. to play Centenary College (5-9) Saturday. Oakland leads the all-time series 9-3, and split last year’s pair of games.
“You don’t win championships in January, but you can lose them in January, so we’ve got to make sure we take care of our business,” head coach Greg Kampe said.
Kampe said that with the exception of the Eastern Michigan game, a loss at home that opened the season, his team has performed in line with his expectations.
“I think we’re about where we should be. We didn’t play very well against some of the big boys (ranked opponents) but they do that to a lot of teams. We’ve won the games we were supposed to win so far. If you look at it in a snapshot, we’re 3-0 in the Summit League and I don’t know that you can be any better than that,” he said.
Oakland’s next home game is Jan. 14 against UMKC at 7 p.m.
