Grizzlies win streak abruptly halted in a loss at IUPUI Thursday

The Golden Grizzlies men’s team saw its nine-game winning streak snapped Thursday night and lost its stranglehold on the conference standings as IUPUI dominated the Grizzlies 78-54.

Oakland trailed by just six points at halftime, but IUPUI poured it on in the final ten minutes, taking advantage of an uncharacteristically porous Grizzlies defense.

The Jaguars shot over 56 percent from the field, while Oakland converted less than 35 percent of its shots.

IUPUI’s dynamic scoring duo of Robert Glenn and Alex Young rose to the occasion, scoring 26 and 20 points, respectively.

Senior Derick Nelson led Oakland with 15 points, while junior Larry Wright scored 12.

OU’s leading scorer and reigning Summit League Player of the Week Keith Benson was held to just seven points, attempting just four shots from the field.

The two teams are now tied atop the conference standings with identical 9-1 records, having lost only to each other this season.

Oakland will return to action Saturday at Western Illinois hoping to start a new winning streak.
