Rise Up benefit takes over the OC

Rise Up is a benefit concert running all day Thursday, Sept. 30 to raise awareness and donations for the victims of the recent Pakistan flooding..

WXOU DJs Kirbalicious and Robo Robb helped book the acts and coordinate the line-up.

From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. a variety of student artists and musicians will be performing in the Oakland Center for donations benefiting the ailing country.

The variety of artists will be play half-hour sets throughout the day. The concert swill conclude around 7:00 with a grand finale act that has not yet been announced.

Donations made today will benefit four different charities: US Dept. of State Pakistan Relief Fund, UNHCR [United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees], Save the Children, and the Edhi Foundation.

Various other OU groups are participating in the relief benefit as well. The Pakistani-American Relations Honors class has assisted the effort of packing items to be shipped over, headed by Chris Jozwick.

Alexa Van Vliet has been representing the GSA in their efforts by running the clothing drive as well as a food and water drive.

Students can also make donations at the registers in the Pioneer Food Court. Basic essentials are in high demand. The drive is asking for donations of pre-packed foods such as crackers or granola bars, water bottles, individual juice pouches, powdered milk, peanut butter, bar soaps, oral rehydration salts, Pedialyte, paper products, bed sheets, and any other essentials that ship well over seas.

A national effort has been made to aid these victims during their time of need. Students can text message FLOOD to 27722 to donate $10 to the US Dept of State’s Pakistan Relief Fund. Text FLOOD to 20222 to donate $10 to the Save the Children foundation or SWAT to 50555 to donate to the UNHCR.
