After two losses and one win against the Milwaukee Panthers, Oakland baseball is seeded at #5 and scheduled to play in the first game of the Championship tournament Wednesday. The match will be aired on ESPN 3 at 12 p.m. ET.

Oakland baseball (23-26, 11-14) closed out the regular season with a three-game home stand against the Milwaukee Panthers. The Golden Grizzlies lost the first two but walked off the third, right before the Senior Day celebration.

Oakland travels to Wright State for the Horizon League Baseball Championship as the fifth seed and plays No. 4 University of Illinois at Chicago on Wednesday, May 25 at 12 p.m. ET. Watch on ESPN3 (click).

Game one: L 7-3

Milwaukee got off to an early lead and never looked back. With bases loaded in the first, Cole Heili hit a three-run double.

In the bottom of the inning, Zach Sterry reached home on a wild throw after Mike Brosseau hit a double. That would be the only run of the inning. Milwaukee up 3-1.

In the fourth, Milwaukee went up 5-1 as Oakland’s pitching continued to struggle.

“We got to stop giving free passes,” said head coach John Musachio during the post-game GrizzVision interview with Dan Gliot. “Six free passes, five scored, four-run game there.”

In the fifth, Oakland’s Mike Brosseau hit a double and stole third.

Tyler Pagano singled and sent Brosseau home for the only Oakland run of the inning.

Milwaukee scored in the seventh and eighth innings, increasing their lead to 7-2 before the bottom of the ninth.

Brett Impemba doubled for Oakland and advanced to third on a grounder. He scored when Myles Zilinsky doubled to left field. However, Oakland did not convert any further.

Joe Buchalski started for Oakland on the mound. He pitched three innings and allowed three hits, three runs, and struck out two.

Alex Mason, P.J. Piesko and Connor Fannon pitched one inning for Oakland and allowed zero runs. Mason struck out three and Piesko struck out one.

Catcher Matt DiLeo threw out a runner at second in the sixth inning.

Zach Sterry batted 2-for-5 and scored one run.

Brosseau and Impemba batted 2-for-4 and scored one run.

Zilinsky and Pagano each batted 1-for-3 and had one RBI.

Game two: L 8-4

“Any time you give up a six spot, you’re going to lose,” Musachio said.

Those six runs came in the fifth.

“We didn’t make some good decisions, and that opened up the floodgates.”

Oakland outhit the Panthers, but the Panthers played much more efficient baseball, converting eight hits into eight runs instead of Oakland’s 13 hits to four runs. The Golden Grizziles left nine men on base.

Ben Hart went 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Sterry got three hits. Ian Yetsko, Brosseau and Fannon got two. Yetsko and Sterry had an RBI each.

“Tomorrow we’ll get ‘em,” Musachio said. “And we’ll head into the tournament on a high note.”

Game three: W 6-5 (10)

They will. The game went to ten innings and Ian Yetsko won it on a walk-off single to right in the last home game the seniors (Mike Brosseau, Joe Buchalski, Austin Fischer, Collin Gee, Brett Impemba, Alex Mason, Luke McCatty, Lucas Scocchia, Logan Sparkman, Chris Van Dyke and Ian Yetsko) will ever play.

The game was inefficient for both teams. Milwaukee had 17 hits and five runs while Oakland had 14 hits and six runs. Combined, the schools left 28 runners on base.

Brosseau hit his 10th home run of the season, which leads the team.

Nate Green got the win for Oakland. He pitched two scoreless innings and struck out four.
