Spring break destinations

Jealous of your friends who are going somewhere warm this spring break? Don’t worry — The Oakland Post has you covered with a list of some fun destinations and events that are right in your back yard.

The Henry Ford

Located in Dearborn, The Henry Ford was built in 1929 and houses a collection of historic objects.

The Henry Ford recently opened up their new exhibit entitled Driving America.

According to a press release from The Henry Ford, Driving America tells the story of American culture through a collection of historically significant vehicles.

In a press release Patricia Mooradian, who is the president of The Henry Ford said: “Driving America is more than an exhibition with cars on display. It is really an interactive, state-of-the-art story of us-us as drivers, consumers and enthusiasts, as well as how this innovation has changed almost every aspect of our lives and heavily influenced the decisions we make.”

The 80,000-foot exhibit features 130 vehicles, 60 cases of artifacts, and 18 interactive touchscreens.

Frankenmuth

Besides shopping and the famous “Frankenmuth Chicken”, they currently have their outdoor sculpture exhibit that runs through April.

All 11 locally created sculptures that are featured in the exhibit are for sale.

Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum

Opened in 1990 by Marvin Yagoda, the museum features vintage coin operated machines dating back to 1960.

According to their website, the museum is home to thousands of machines, some of which were build specifically for the museum.

The Museum is featured in the World Almanac’s 100 most unusual museums in the U.S.

Sports

Playing three games at home during the week of break makes it a perfect time to go and see the central division leading Detroit Red Wings in action.

If hockey really isn’t your thing, University of Michigan basketball is playing twice over break, and Michigan st University is in action once over break.

The Pistons are also in action once over break and are featuring ten dollar all you can eat tickets to the game.

Fire and Ice Fest

February 24 – 26, Downtown Rochester will host its annual Fire and Ice Fest.

The event is in its fifth year, and features ice sculptures, local food, microbrews, a tubing hill, ice-skating, and more.
