Oakland University will receive $45 million in state aid and an additional one time $930,800 tuition-rate bonus because of its 3 percent tuition increase for the 2012-13 school year.

OU Media Relations Director Ted Montgomery said the use of the one-time bonus is yet to be determined.

The money comes from a promise made by Gov. Rick Snyder, who set aside more than $9 million to reward public universities that kept tuition increases under 4.1 percent.

Oakland’s tuition increase was 2.96 percent for undergraduate students and 2.94 percent for graduate students. The budget was approved by the OU Board of Trustees on Aug. 6. The increase was the fifth lowest increase among Michigan’s 15 public universities and Oakland’s lowest increase since a 1 percent increase in 2004.
