To the students of Oakland University,
As I step into the role of Student Body President, I do so with a deep sense of honor and responsibility.
In a letter I shared during my campaign, I wrote that the role of Student Congress is not to speak over students, but to amplify their voices—even if that means Congress doesn’t always take the lead. That belief remains the foundation of how I will serve.
This year, my administration is guided by a simple but powerful idea: unity through voice.
Too often, student government is seen as separate from the students it represents. I want to change that.
Congress should be more than a governing body—it should be a gathering space for every student, every identity, every story. It should be where collaboration happens, communities thrive together, and your voice is heard, valued, and empowered.
That is why my first initiative as President will be the creation of VOICE Committees, an ad-hoc structure built around the values of Visibility, Outreach, Inclusion, Community, and Equity.
These committees are designed to provide students from underrepresented and impacted communities a seat at the table—and the microphone to speak.
At a time when Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts face growing attacks, especially those that are intersectional, we cannot afford to be silent. But more importantly, we cannot afford to speak for communities without also speaking with them.
The truth is, Congress should speak, but the voice doesn’t always have to be mine. It should be ours.
As we work toward this vision of unity, I also want to be clear about how we’ll get there: through transparency. You deserve to know what Congress is doing, why we’re doing it, and how you can be a part of it. That means more open meetings, regular updates, and accessible opportunities to give feedback or ask questions.
We’re not here to make decisions behind closed doors, we’re here to open them.
Transparency is not just a policy, it’s a promise. A promise that your government will be honest with you, accountable to you, and always working with you.
Together, let’s build a Congress that listens more than it talks. A Congress that reaches out before it stands up. A Congress that brings students together, so every club, every cause, every culture has the opportunity to thrive.
This is our new way forward. Let’s walk it together.
