BLOG: ‘White Christmas’ is a must-see for the holidays

Every Christmas season is filled with family traditions, including music, food and movies. One movie that must be added to the family Christmas collection this holiday season is “White Christmas.”

Let’s go back to 1954, into the world of “White Christmas.” A musical film directed by Michael Curtiz and set to the music of legendary songwriter Irving Berlin.

The film entertains all through singing, dancing, and acting performances by entertainment legends.

After Phil Davis (Danny Kaye) saves the life of Broadway star Bob Wallace (Bing Crosby) in the war, he takes advantage of the old saying “I owe you one,” by convincing Bob that he and Phil should combine acts. After doing so, and having great success, they then meet the Haynes sisters (Rosemary Clooney and Vera Ellen) performing at a Miami nightclub.

Phil and Judy (Vera Ellen) then come up with a plan to set-up Bob and Betty (Rosemary Clooney), the workaholics of the two duos. While traveling to Vermont the four of them stay at the lodge of Bob and Phil’s admired general from the army. After realizing the financial struggles of their former general, the four of them decide to bring their stage shows to the general’s lodge in attempt to acquire more guests.

This upbeat musical film set at Christmas time is sure to warm the heart.

The performances of the four main stars are truly noteworthy.

Bing Crosby as Bob Wallace brings the crooner element of the show to life. His incredible voice and witty satire is worth the price of admission all by itself.

Danny Kaye as Phil Davis then brings the comic element to the duo. One of the original comedic geniuses, from his facial expressions to his demeanor he is sure to make you grin.

Vera Ellen as Judy Haynes is the dancer of the foursome. Typically known for her performances on Broadway, her smooth transition to film is a joy to watch.

Rosemary Clooney as Betty Haynes proves why she is one of the greatest singers of all time. She commands the singing scenes with her incredible range and grace. She is also the aunt of famed actor of today George Clooney.

Through the marvelous direction of Michael Curtiz, the uplifting lyrics of Irving Berlin, and the memorable performances of Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Vera Ellen, and Rosemary Clooney, White Christmas is sure to become a new part of your family’s holiday tradition.
