Snyder signs ‘right to work’ legislation

Despite thousands protesting in Lansing, Gov. Rick Snyder (R) has announced he signed both right to work bills into law.

“I have signed the freedom to work bills into law,” Snyder said on Twitter. “The freedom to choose and bringing more and better jobs to our state makes Freedom to Work the right move for Michigan.”

The House of Representatives voted to pass both bills earlier, voting 58-51 and 58-52.

Michigan is the 24th state in the U.S. to pass the right to work legislation, which makes membership and payment of union dues voluntary for public sector employees.
