OUSC adds new legislator, discusses plans for student union tour
Oakland University Student Congress gained a new legislator today.
Louie Alkasmikha is a fourth year philosophy major, and has been involved with OUSC for three years.
“All I want is for people to know what OUSC is really about,” said Alkasmikha, shortly after his induction. “We’re the team players — the people who get things done. We build building and fix problems.”
This is the second time Alkasmikha has attempted a legislatorship. His first submission was in January. He was denied by only four votes.
“But he just doesn’t give up,” Legislator Madeline Knapp said. “Most people wouldn’t show there face again, but Louie is different. His persistence is an inspiration to myself, as well my other legislators.”
Also mentioned in the meeting was the upcoming trip to neighboring student unions, to be held this upcoming Friday, Feb. 25.
“It’s a 56 person bus and we’ve filled about half the seats,” said Student Body President Samantha Wolf. “We hope to fill the rest by the time we leave. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided — that, and a whole lot of fun!”
Inspirations from other student unions will be used to improve the Oakland Center. The buses will be leaving at 6 a.m. and will venture to four separate universities.
The next OUSC meeting will be held on Monday, March 4, in the Oakland Room.
