Tuesday night classes still in session despite winter weather advisory
Oakland University will not cancel classes Tuesday night, despite the winter weather advisory in affect until noon Wednesday.
Though night classes will remain open, instructors have the choice to cancel class if they wish, according to Ted Montgomery, director of media relations at OU.
Macomb Community College will also remain open, according to its website. However, Wayne State University, Walsh College and U-M Flint have already posted closings for this evening.
The National Weather Service predicts freezing rain and sleet over the next six hours, which will mix with snow by 8 p.m. Snowfall of less than a half an inch is expected to accumulate through 9 p.m and an accumulation of 3-5 inches of snow is expected by Wednesday morning.
Montgomery said there is no telling whether or not Oakland will cancel classes tomorrow, but a decision will be made by 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Students signed up for Oakland’s text message alert system will be notified via text message if the school closes. An announcement will also be posted on the university’s homepage.
The Oakland Post will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
