Oakland closed Wednesday due to inclement weather

Oakland University will be closed Wednesday due to inclement weather.

This is the first time the university has had a snow day since February 2011 and comes after OU kept night classes open Tuesday night.

A winter weather advisory is in effect in Oakland County until noon, with snow accumulation expected to reach 3-6 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Oakland joins 653 other schools in the Metro Detroit area that are closed. Wayne State University and Macomb Community College are still open.

All OU night classes and campus events are cancelled, according to Ted Montgomery, director of media relations at OU. Meadow Brook Hall, Meadow Brook Theatre and athletics have the right to determine whether or not they will cancel their events, however.

The Oakland Post will continue to update this story as more information becomes available.
