Oakland beats South Dakota in waning seconds to win sixth straight

The Oakland University men’s basketball team won their sixth straight game, defeating South Dakota 76-75 on the road on Thursday night.

Junior guard Duke Mondy hit the game winning free throw for the Golden Grizzlies (14-13, 9-4 Summit) with only four seconds left in the game. Mondy finished with 16 points off the bench.

Senior forward Drew Valentine and sophomore center Corey Petros each had a double-double. Valentine scored 14 and collected 10 rebounds. Petros had 17 points and grabbed 13 boards.

Junior guard Travis Bader scored 16 points, hitting three shots from beyond the arc.

OU shot 46.2 percent overall for the game, but struggled from the charity stripe, only shooting 53.8 percent.

Senior guard Juevol Myles led SD (8-17, 4-9 Summit) with 23 points, but missed a potential winning jumper as time expired.
