The Oakland University men’s basketball 2012-2013 season officially came to an end after the final buzzer Tuesday. Youngstown State defeated the Grizzlies 99-87 at the CIT Tournament at the Beeghly Physical Education Center in Youngstown, Ohio.

Junior guard Travis Bader finished with 30 points, shooting 8-16 from the field and knocking down five 3-pointers. Sophomore forward/center Corey Petros had 23 points, going 10-15 from the field.

Both teams kept it close early on with Oakland getting out to a 14-9 lead before the first official media timeout. The Grizzlies and Penguins continued to exchange baskets, keeping the momentum even for both sides.

At halftime, the Grizzlies had a one-point advantage, leading 44-43.

Youngstown jumped out with an 11-3 run to go on top 54-47. The Grizzlies cut the lead back down, tying it at 56 with 14 minutes remaining in the game.

After a 3-pointer from freshman forward Bobby Hain put the Penguins on top 59-56, the lead was never relinquished.

Junior guard Kendrick Perry finished with 31 points and eight rebounds. His Penguins teammate, senior forward Damian Eargle, recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Grizzlies shot 47 percent (31-66) from the field while holding Youngstown to 48.4 percent shooting (31-64). The Penguins had the three-point advantage, shooting 18-35 from beyond the arc. Oakland was 7-15 for three.

The loss Tuesday marked the final game in a Grizzlies uniform for seniors Drew Valentine and Jordan Howenstine.
