OU Rugby Club improves to 2-0

The Oakland Rugby Club improved their record to 2-0 after defeating Calvin College Saturday night at Auburn Hills Civic Center. OU won 17-16.

Team captain Devon Meadows said the win was a team effort.

“We’re a team, we learn together and we win together,” Meadows said. “And the only way we win together is by learning together. I couldn’t have done it by myself, this is a game where you need your team.”

His teammate, DJ Pinneo, said new members stepped up to the challenge and contributed to the team’s victory.

“We proved … that we’re actually here to play and I thought we played great goal line defense,” he said. “I didn’t have my best game, but we’ll go from there.”

Calvin Walker said practice leading up to the game was tough.

“[Captains Frank DeLong and Meadows] definitely prepared us for this game and we came out with a victory … pretty happy about it.”

The OU Rugby Club plays Saginaw Valley State University this Saturday at 8 p.m. at Auburn Hills Civic Center.
