Intercollegiate sports recap: week three

The weeks go on, the numbers have stayed down and the games will continue.

Oakland started out the week bringing home another win against DePaul in Volleyball. Women’s Soccer continued on the rough road thus far in the season, facing a 3-2 loss against Kent State University on Sept. 12. They started to turn the tide in games with a 1-1 tie against Youngstown State University on Sept. 16.

Men’s Golf placed third out of 565 against Ball State University on Sept. 17. Cross Country finished ninth out of 22 Friday in the Spartan Invitational.

Women’s Volleyball had a coin flip tournament in the NorthEast at the Green & White Classic. They won against CMU 3-2, but they took a tough 3-0 defeat against MSU.

Heading to Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan’s volleyball team accepted defeat against North Carolina in a 3-2 loss, while both Women’s and Men’s Soccer represented — with the women away against Cincinnati and men at home against Chicago State — both ending their games on top 2-1.

Women’s Golf ended Day 1 at the Wolverine Invitational in first and finalized their first place out of 16 on Sept 14 — day 2 of the Invitational. On the other hand, the men accepted the loss against Maryland with a 2-1 defeat.

Wolverine Women’s sports dominated Friday night with soccer bringing home the win 2-1 against Illinois and volleyball snagging a 3-0 win against Eastern Michigan University and Boston College in the Michigan Invitational.

On Sept. 12, in enemy territory, Michigan State University (MSU) Men’s Golf landed second in the Gopher Invitational in Minnesota out of 561 — while Women’s Soccer and Field Hockey both brought home a win. The women played in Dayton coming home after a 3-1 win. Field hockey finalized their night with a 7-1 win against Ball State.

On Sept. 13, MSU Men’s Golf was able to land third out of 847 at Day 2 of the Gopher Invitational in Minnesota. Women’s Golf participated in the Cougar Classic in Charleston, placing seventh out of 578 on Day 1. On Day 2, the girls pulled out with a 12th place finish out of 878. Men’s Soccer brought home a win against Notre Dame winning 4-3.

MSU Cross Country brought home a first place for women and a second for men at the Spartan Invitational. Field hockey lost 4-3 against Ohio State, and Women’s Volleyball brought home a 3-0 win against Oakland. Men’s Soccer finished a late night game against Wisconsin, closing out their dual with a 1-1 score.
