Letter to the Editor: This week’s comic

Editor’s note: The Oakland Post regrets the decision to run the “Note to Self” comic featured on last week’s “Mouthing Off” satire page. During this semester, we have covered Greek life in stories chronicling sorority bid day, Oakland’s TKE fraternity’s positive response to a national scandal, the Greek council’s reaction to the Yik Yak app, and a “Photo of the Week” featuring a Zeta Sigma Chi fundraising event. The Post has and will continue to provide objective coverage of all campus organizations and to champion their contributions to the community.

Dear Editor,

I am extremely disappointed in this week’s comic in the Post. Not only is it offensive to the OU Greek community, but you also chose to target a specific fraternity on campus. I find this remarkably rude, inappropriate and hateful. Additionally, why do you choose to perpetuate the outdated, inaccurate stereotype that all Greeks are stupid and that all we do is drink and party? For your information, all sororities and fraternities hold their members to high academic standards. Each organization holds a specific grade point average that must be met each semester, and those who do not meet it have privileges revoked or can even be removed from their organization. Also, if you had done your research, you would have discovered that OU’s collective Greek GPA is higher than OU’s general student body GPA.
All in all, I find it quite sad that you have to target student organizations to come up with a comic. I hope that you will remove this offensive comic from your website and reconsider what you allow to be published in your paper.

Sincerely,

A Proud Sorority Woman
