Letter to the Editor: OU bear/beer Greek comic

Editor’s note: The Oakland Post regrets the decision to run the “Note to Self” comic featured on last week’s “Mouthing Off” satire page. During this semester, we have covered Greek life in stories chronicling sorority bid day, Oakland’s TKE fraternity’s positive response to a national scandal, the Greek council’s reaction to the Yik Yak app, and a “Photo of the Week” featuring a Zeta Sigma Chi fundraising event. The Post has and will continue to provide objective coverage of all campus organizations and to champion their contributions to the community.

Dear Editor,

I am absolutely appalled that the Oakland Post would publish something like this. My name is Erin Ward and I am an Alpha Sigma Tau. I also have an executive board position on Student Congress. There are two other Greeks who are on Student Congress as well. As I am sure you know, Student Congress represents all of the student body. If this comic is true, why did your elected student body President and Vice President give us these positions? I am extremely offended and disappointed that you would publish this when Greeks have been fighting to eradicate this stereotype for years now. Please remove this. It is offensive to the Greek community and everything that we stand for.

I am willing to meet and talk to you or anyone else about this.

Thank you.
