Friends and family are mourning poet, scholar and mentor Frank Lepkowski, who died on Tuesday.

Friends, family and faculty are mourning the death of 59-year-old Associate Professor Frank Lepkowski, a poet, scholar and mentor to many.

President George Hynd sent out a bereavement notice earlier this morning, saying:

“It is with great sorrow that I inform you of the death of Associate Professor Frank Lepkowski who passed away on October 28, 2014. Professor Lepkowski joined the Oakland University faculty in 1985. He has served as associate dean and interim dean of the University Libraries and most recently as Humanities Librarian until his passing.

Memorial contributions to Oakland University Kresge Library are appreciated… Please join me in offering our deepest sympathy to the Lepkowski family and friends.”

Kresge Library has posted a tribute to Frank, including a summary of his many publications, which can be read at http://library.oakland.edu/people/bios/lepkowski.html. Funeral arrangements can be found at http://www.sullivanfuneraldirectors.com/obituary/Frank-Lepkowski/Royal-Oak-MI/1446125.

The Oakland Post is working on an obituary to honor Frank’s memory that will be online this week and in print Wednesday. Feel free to share memories and condolences below, or contact Campus & Administration Editor Ali DeRees at [email protected] if you would like to contribute.
