Letter to the editor: Emma Hughes

As everyone knows, the world is in a very sad place right now. People are scared and angry, rightfully so. Too many people have died at the hand of unnecessary violence.

My heart is heavy and I find it hard to fully grasp the situation. I understand that I will never know how it feels to be a person of color in this country, but I will do everything in my power to help this cause. This issue is not about politics, it is about arrogance and ignorance.

I think that especially now, we need to come together to see the good in the world. For example, the police chief in Atlanta that is out talking with protesters and truly listening to the concerns of her citizens. Another would be the protests in Flint, a place that has been struck with unbelievable grief. They put their other issues aside and were able to come together with a peaceful and powerful protest.

We have an obligation to ourselves and our peers to use our privilege and power to support anyone in need of help.
