There’s some to play games, network with past friends, and now an app to meet your future classmates.

“Quad” came up as a Facebook ad a few months ago, appearing as a chat app to meet people who you might be with next year. As a high school senior who had not decided on a school yet, I thought that this might be a way to get a feel for the personality of the students that had already committed to the school.

In Quad, you join groups based on interests. There’s “Michigan State ‘19” and, of course, an “Oakland U. 2019” chat. It seems to be a group chat filled in part with college talk and mostly random conversations about daily life. I know a few people who have even met their roommates and best friends.

My suggestion to incoming freshman: find some way to get in touch with your future classmates. It is not a waste of time. The worst thing that can happen is you do not meet anyone. Even then you might get familiar with a few names.
