WBB vs. Milwaukee: On Thursday, Jan. 18, Oakland women’s basketball hosted Milwaukee for the first game of a five game home stand. The Golden Grizzlies fell 74-62.
To lead the Oakland offense, Taylor Jones had 14 points and went 4-for-6 from the free throw line. Taylor Gleason recorded 11 points, and Sha’Keya Graves along with Chloe Guingrich both had seven points. Leah Somerfield had two assists and two blocking while just missing a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds.
Swimming and Diving: Oakland swimming and diving visited Michigan State in East Lansing on Saturday, Jan. 20. The Golden Grizzlies fell 160.5-133.5 (men) and 197-103 (women).

Track and Field: On Saturday, Jan. 20, Oakland track and field traveled to Fort Wayne, Ind. for the Fort Wayne Duals.
For the men’s team, Andrew Storm placed first with a mark of 22 ft., 1.5 in. in his first ever long jump competition. Kenton Rivard won the shot put (50 ft., 4.75 in.) while Andrew Bowman won his second consecutive 3000m with a time of 8:29.03. At the 60m, Napoleon Outlaw placed first (7:07), and Joe McCarthy finished second (7.12). Jimmie Williams finished second in the 200m with a time of (22.94), and Keenan Jones (1:59.87) also placed second in the 800m. Overall, the men’s team ended the day 6-1)
For the women, Maggie Schneider placed first in the 3000m with a time of 9:54.61, and Chanel Gardner (25.54) won her third consecutive 200m. In the 60m, Andriana Smith placed first with a mark of 7.75. Madison Leigh placed second in the 1-mile (5:04.00) while Whitney Mergens also finished second in the high jump (5 ft., 5.75 in.) and the long jump (16 ft., 10.75 in.) The women’s team finished 8-1 overall.
WBB vs. Green Bay: Back on the Blacktop, women’s basketball faced No. 22/23 Green Bay on Saturday, Jan. 20. Oakland lost 81-48 to end a two-game win streak over Green Bay.
With 16 points, Graves led the scorers. She had four three-pointers as well as two assists. Gleason was close behind with 11 points and had four rebounds, three assists and three steals. Jones also added 10 points and had a team-high four free throws. On defense, Korrin Taylor had two steals, and Mercy Agwaniru posted three blocks.
The Golden Grizzlies return to the O’rena on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. for a Metro Series against rival Detroit Mercy.
