Covergirl Brings the Force

I’m usually pretty picky with makeup. Mascara is usually too clumpy, or lipstick bleeds into an ugly faded mess on my lips. But I was honestly pretty surprised with the Covergirl Star Wars makeup line.

The first product I used was their blue packaged mascara, or the “light side” one. See, the products are all packed as either being on the “light” side of the force, or the “dark side”. A clever marketing strategy, as it encourages the average consumer to buy multiple of similar products.

Though this went a bit over the top. Each package of the mascara had a different quote. Mine said “either do or do not, there is no try”. But according to the package, this is only one of seven different packages of the “light” mascara.

Personally I would never buy seven packages of the exact same mascara to collect Star Wars quotes. But it is an interesting package choice, that’s for sure.

Speaking of interesting choices, the wand was very strange. Instead of having a pointed tip, it actually got wider at the tip and thinner at the base. Instructions on the back of the package encouraged me to twist the brush to get fuller lashes.

Every mascara makes the same promise for fuller lashes and often come short. This product was no exception, as I saw no visible change in volume. But it did work as a lengthening mascara and it did it’s job well. And it’s waterproof, and doesn’t flake off throughout a day of long wear, so that was nice.

Next up is the lipstick. I got a fantastic shade of red and I was blown away. I wore it in Kresge and within 10 minutes my friend came over to me telling me it was “on point”. I usually don’t wear lipstick, as it’s often too dark or bleeds too much. But this color stayed on well and didn’t smudge much as all throughout a full night of wear. It did come off a bit on a glass, but most lipsticks do. It also had the faintest bit of sparkle to it, and I will for sure be adding this piece to my usual collection of makeup product.

There isn’t much to say about the nail polish. It was nothing surprising, it worked as all of my usual polish does. It did take awhile to dry, and none of the colors were very appealing to me. Silvers and golds really aren’t my favorite. But the grey-silver color based on Han Solos Millennium Falcon is very pretty, just not for me. It stayed on for a couple days without chipping too, and only took one coat for a good color.

The one thing I wish could be changed would be for more availability! I looked online and was told I could find all of the product in Target. However every store I went too didn’t even have display of the product, one had a few of the “light” mascara. I’m currently searching for a beautiful lilac color of lipstick, and hope I find it before it goes out of stock.

I will for sure be sporting the mascara when I go see the new Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie, premiering on December 18th.
