Retired facilities management employee passes away

Leonard “Luke” Vaughn, Oakland University retired facilities management employee, passed away on Dec. 22, 2015.

Vaughn was born to his late parents Willis and Zelflee Vaughn on Nov. 15, 1944. He passed away in St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Oakland on Tuesday, Dec. 22, 2015.

Vaughn was 71 years old. He will be remembered for his love of dogs as well as his quiet and friendly demeanor.

Vaughn joined the Oakland University food service staff in 1971 and continued on to establish a career as a custodian in facilities management until his his retirement in 2007. Additionally, he was one of 254 honored faculty members who received Oakland University honors for 10-20 years of service in 1983.

Visitation services were held for Vaughn on Dec. 26 at the Chapel of Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home of Pontiac.  Funeral arrangements were also held at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church on Jan. 2, 2016.

His son, Don Taylor, four brothers: Robert Vaughn, Chester Vaughn, Willis Vaughn Jr. and Claude Chambers all passed before. Additionally, so did his six sisters: Lucille Chatman, Patricia Washington, Sylvia Vaughn, Carrie Lee Willis, Carolyn Butler and Thelma Taylor.

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters and his three brothers. He will also be missed by his three sisters-in-law.

Vaughn will be missed as an important member of the Oakland University campus community, as his 38 year career made a tremendous impact on those around him. He was a positive asset to all who were in contact with him.
