OU basketball wins both games of a doubleheader over Centenary
The Oakland University men’s and women’s basketball teams each improved their conference records Saturday by defeating Centenary College in a doubleheader.
In the early game, the women’s team was dominant from the get-go, winning 75-32 to move their Summit League record to 3-1. The team has won four straight games overall.
Leading the way for the Lady Grizzlies was senior forward Melissa Jeltema with 24 points. Also scoring in double figures was senior Hanna Reising with twelve points.
In the second game, the OU men’s team took to the court with a perfect 4-0 conference record, coming off a momentous win against Oral Roberts Thursday.
Oakland won 88-50, and shot nearly 59 percent from the field for the game.
Statistically, the scoring was widespread across the box score. Junior Larry Wright led the Grizzlies with 15 points, while Keith Benson, Drew Maynard, Blake Cushingberry, and Ledrick Eackles also finished with double-digit points.
Point guard Johnathon Jones recorded a game-high eight assists in just 27 minutes, as the starters gave way to the bench for much of the second half.
The women’s team will travel to Oral Roberts for their next game Monday, while the men’s team returns home to host UMKC Thursday at the O’Rena.
