Men’s basketball falls at rival Oral Roberts in series finale
Tulsa, OK — In finale of the Oakland and Oral Roberts conference rivalry, the Golden Eagles (18-4, 10-0) went out with a bang defeating OU 93-86.
Oakland edged Oral Roberts shooting 56 percent and 55 percent respectively, but the Grizzlies couldn’t slow down Dominique Morrison who finished with 24 points.
Warren Niles hit seven three pointers to contribute to his 28 total points. Michael Craion added 14 points.
Reggie Hamilton led all scorers with 30 points, but two costly turnovers late in the game threw the brakes on a possible Grizzlies comeback.
Three other Grizzlies reached double figures including Travis Bader (17 points), Drew Valentine (15 points) and Ryan Bass (11 points).
Midway through the second half, Oakland held a ten point lead but a controversial intentional foul call from Drew Valentine gave the Eagles back the momentum.
“It’s nobody’s fault (the lead) got away but ours.” Head Coach Greg Kampe said, “Hopefully we’ll get to play them one more time.”
The Grizzlies return for a two game homestand starting on Jan. 26 against South Dakota at 7 p.m. in the O’rena.
