With it already being November, the end of the year is right around the corner. While that means the holiday season is almost here, it also means some great new film releases are upon us.
Here is a list of some exciting films to look forward to this winter season.
“Gladiator II”
Another sequel in the sea of Hollywood franchise continuations, “Gladiator II” is set 20 years after the original film. This continuation follows Maximus’s son Lucius as he steps into the same shoes his father once did after his wife is killed and his home is invaded by the Roman soldiers. The cast includes Paul Mescal as Lucius, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielson, Denzel Washington and Joseph Quinn.
“Gladiator II” comes out Nov. 22, 2024.
“Moana 2”
Following the worldwide success from the original “Moana” released in 2016, “Moana 2” follows Moana traveling long past the barrier reef with a crew she assembles in the film after receiving a call from her wayfinding ancestors. The film brings back the original cast, including Auliʻi Cravalho, Dwayne Johnson, Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger, Rachel House and Alan Tudyk.
The film comes out Nov. 27, 2024.
“Wicked”
“Wicked” is a screen adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name which was based on the book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” The musical follows the upbringing and complex friendship between Elphaba, The Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, the Good Witch. The cast includes Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Jonathan Bailey and Ethan Slater.
Part one of “Wicked” is set to release on Nov. 22, 2024, and “Wicked Part Two” is set to release on Nov. 21, 2025.
“Nightbitch”
Possibly one of the weirdest films of the year, “Nightbitch” is a comedy horror film that follows a stay-at-home mom who transforms into a dog at night. The film is based on a book by the same title. The cast includes Amy Adams, Scoot McNairy, Zoë Chao, Mary Holland, Ella Thomas, Archana Rajan and Jessica Harper.
“Nightbitch” is set to release on Dec. 6, 2024.
“Kraven the Hunter”
Set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, “Kraven the Hunter” follows Sergei Kravinoff in this quest to become the world’s greatest hunter and marksman after being brought up by his ruthless father. The cast of “Kraven the Hunter” includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ariana DeBose, Fred Hechinger, Alessandro Nivola, Christopher Abbott and Russell Crowe.
The film releases on Dec. 13, 2024.
“The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim”
An animated prequel to the original trilogy, “The War of the Rohirrim” follows Helm Hammerhand, King of Rohan, as he defends his kingdom against Dunlendings. The cast includes Brian Cox, Gaia Wise, Luke Pasqualino, Miranda Otto, Laurence Ubong Williams and Shaun Dooley.
“The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” is set to release on Dec. 13, 2024.
“Nosferatu”
“Nosferatu” follows the deep obsession between vampire Nosferatu and a haunted young woman Ellen Hutter. Robert Eggers’s 2024 version will be the second remake of the original 1922 film. The cast includes Bill Skarsgård as Count Orlok, Nicholas Hoult as Thomas Hutter, Lily-Rose Depp as Ellen Hutter, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin and Willem Dafoe.
“Nosferatu” is set to release on Dec. 25, 2024.
