In what may be the last meeting of the two schools, the Oakland University men’s basketball team defeated Kansas City 86-74 Saturday night.

The win marked the fourteenth straight victory for Oakland (15-13, 10-4 Summit) over UMKC (7-21, 4-10 Summit), who announced earlier this season that they will be leaving the Summit League for the WAC starting in 2013-14.

OU used a strong performance from sharpshooter Travis Bader to seal their seventh straight victory. The junior guard scored a game-high 29, going 6-12 from beyond the arc.

Bader leads the nation with 123 three-pointers, being only one shy of his career high 124 last season.

Bader moved into 15th place all time in Oakland scoring with 1,560 points, passing former teammate Reggie Hamilton. Bader also grabbed a career high eight rebounds.

Senior forward Drew Valentine added 17 points and six rebounds, topping the 1,000 career point plateau (1,008). Junior Ryan Bass scored 16 and collected six rebounds, and sophomore center Corey Petros had 12 points and five boards.

Oakland led by as many as 21 points during the contest, but Kansas City cut the lead to only four with less than a minute to play. However, as UMKC was forced to foul, Oakland hit 12 straight free throws to close out the game.

Junior guard Nelson Kirksey led the Kangaroos with 18 points.

With the win, the Golden Grizzlies improved to 30-2 in February Summit League games since 2009. OU plays its final road game of the season Feb. 20 at Fort Wayne.

They return home Feb. 23 against Morehead State as part of the Ramada ESPN BracketBusters series.
