Oakland men’s and women’s basketball earn end of the season honors
Junior guard Travis Bader was named All-Summit League first team, announced March 7. Senior forward Drew Valentine and sophomore forward/center Corey Petros were also named all-league honorable mentions.
Two first-year players, junior guard Duke Mondy and freshman guard Elena Popkey, were both awarded honors.
Mondy was named All-Summit League second team and earned accolades including Summit League Newcomer of the Year and named to the All-Newcomer Team.
Popkey was named to the league All-Newcomer Team and also earned All-Summit League honorable mention honors.
Bader leads the nation with 131 three-pointers this season. He is fifth in the nation in scoring with 22 points per game. Bader has recorded at least one three-pointer in 51 straight games, the longest streak in the country.
Petros is second in the league in rebounds per game with 8.2. He has recorded seven double-doubles this season. Valentine ranks third in the league with 1.7 steals per game.
In his first season playing for Oakland after transferring from Providence, Mondy leads the nation in steals with a school record 97. He is second in the league with 161 assists.
Popkey averaged 12.9 points per game in league play this season and scored a team-high 324 points. She scored 20 or more points in three separate games. Popkey averaged 11.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game.
The women’s team, ranked eighth, takes on No. 1 South Dakota State March 9 at 1 p.m. ET. The men will play the following day, ranked fourth, against No. 5 Fort Wayne March 10 at 7 p.m.
