Just 10 days after the Oakland men’s basketball team upset the Xavier Musketeers at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio, the women’s basketball team had a chance to pull off an upset of its own. The Golden Grizzlies and Musketeers were set to battle it out in yet another buy game as Oakland looked to go 2-0 over Xavier on the season, but the game was postponed.
According to a short press release issued by the Xavier women’s basketball program, the game was postponed “due to the team not having enough available players.”
Xavier noted “The game will be rescheduled for a later date,” but with conference play soon starting for both squads, finding a date that works for both teams could be a tough task.
Surprisingly, Xavier is 0-8 so far this season, with bad losses to Youngstown State, James Madison, Temple and Cincinnati.
The matchup against the Musketeers could have been a good opportunity for Oakland to pick up a win and end its two-game losing skid, but the Golden Grizzlies ended it anyway on Saturday against Central Michigan.
Oakland and Xavier will look to make up the postponed game at a later date during the 2023-24 season.
