Detroit — known as the city with deep musical roots — witnessed a historic night on Sunday, Sept. 17, as rapper 50 Cent graced the stage at the Pine Knob Music Theatre as a part of his “Final Lap Tour.”
Before embarking on his incredible performance in Detroit, 50 Cent’s “Final Lap Tour” took him on an extensive journey across the U.S. and Canada during the summer months, all in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of his iconic, best-selling rap album “Get Rich or Die Tryin’.”
50 Cent’s devotion to music led him to sign with Eminem’s Shady Records in 2002, propelling him to stardom. As anticipation reached its zenith during Sunday night’s concert, the 15,000 fans in attendance were buzzing with excitement as Eminem came out 30 minutes into the show to perform two of their collaborated songs, “Patiently Waiting” and the 2009 hit “Crack a Bottle” — adding an element of surprise for fans.
The camaraderie between the two artists was displayed throughout the entirety of their performance together — instantly electrifying the atmosphere. Fans couldn’t pull out their phones quickly enough to capture the moment.
This unexpected collaboration will undoubtedly be engraved into the memories of fans lucky enough to have been in attendance. Before exiting the stage, Eminem yelled out, “Detroit, I love y’all.”
50 Cent then picked it back up and transitioned into his song “Disco Inferno,” but it was only a matter of time before he brought out even more special guests. There were some flashes of music from local Detroit talent, like Kash Doll — who took the stage by herself and performed “Ice Me Out,” captivating fans as they danced to the upbeat song.
Artist Jeremih — known for his distinctive voice and versatility in the music industry — also came out on stage for about 30 minutes to perform some of his songs. After his brisk showing, the stage was set ablaze once again as one of the greatest live performers in hip-hop history, Busta Rhymes, made his entrance accompanied by his legendary hype man, Spliff Star.
As the pair played off each other and sent waves of jubilation through the crowd, the energy was uplifted to unprecedented heights. Their unmatched synchronization was on point as the crowd joined in.
All in all, the preparation aspect of the “Final Lap Tour” was nothing short of grand. The display of lights and visuals complemented the music so well, amplifying the fan experience.
From his performance, 50 Cent’s joy at being able to share this special moment with other Detroit artists who have become his closest friends throughout his successful career was evident.
Detroit was ignited with vigor and profound passion as one of the most iconic artists of the hip-hop genre made his stop in the city an unforgettable experience. The tour was more than just a concert but rather a celebration of a genre, a career and a city’s musical legacy. As 50 Cent continues to tour around the world, he certainly gave the Detroit crowd a night to remember.
