Every few months a new star emerges who takes over the minds of fashion Twitter and respected publications alike. I think it is time to officially crown actress Taylor Russell as fashion’s new It Girl.

If you haven’t been familiar with Russell in the past — her breakout role being 2019’s “Waves,” which earned her a slew of almost every notable breakthrough award you could list — you are definitely aware of her now, given Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming film “Bones and All,” which has been dominating film festival circuits.

The film also stars the-man-of-every-hour Timothée Chalamet, his second collaboration with Guadagnino after 2017’s “Call Me By Your Name” — which is arguably why all eyes originally turned to this film, but also everyone is just obsessed with him. However, through the film’s press tour, Russell has undoubtedly emerged as the true star.

I will say, when I first saw Chalamet and Russell with their arms wrapped around each other on the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival, I thought they looked like a little Christmas present with their starkly red and green ensembles. But when really examining Russell’s fashion choices, I could see someone with real taste.

While Chalamet opted for his trusty Haider Ackermann, Russell pulled a look from Balenciaga’s Fall 2022 Haute Couture collection — a bold choice that paid off.

However, the look that really cemented Russell as someone to watch in the fashion scene was her look at the BFI London Film Festival. From the moment she stepped out onto that carpet in that Schiaparelli Haute Couture look, I was transfixed.

Everything about it was perfect. The sharp shouldered black skirt suit, the slanted wide brim hat, the champagne satin corset. I’m going to be honest — I didn’t even know Chalamet had arrived until he slipped his hand around that crafted-by-the-Gods corset, and even then the internet came to the general consensus that he was just an accessory on Russell’s hip.

Russell is already making big moves within the fashion industry, with the star opening the Spring 2023 Loewe show in Paris and snagging the role of global ambassador for the brand. Creative director Jonathan Anderson’s love for the avant-garde makes this choice so much more interesting for a young star in comparison to more standard partnerships.

Overall, I am just so excited to see what Russell and her stylist Ryan Hastings (another perfect choice in the most press shy, mysterious way, but I digress) put together next, because I will most certainly eat it up.

That was an accidental pun, but feels right given I am going to go watch a movie about cannibalism strictly for her.
