Women’s volleyball ousted by UC-Irvine in invite final
Amanda Baker had six blocks in the effort, but that proved too little as the OU volleyball team lost in three straight sets ending a six-match winning streak. Bowling Green and Robert Morris were the other two teams competing in the tournament. The Grizzlies’ Melissa Deastch and Jessica Dodd were named to the all-tourney team with a combined 66 kills.
Former men’s soccer player excelling in MLS
Steve Clark is now playing goalkeeper for the Columbus Crew and with five games left in the MLS regular season, holds a .70 save percentage and six shutouts. He remains close with OU men’s soccer coach Eric Pogue, and attributes most of his success to Oakland’s “get out and work” attitude. The Crew is currently in the last playoff spot, just two points ahead of the Philadelphia Union.
Women’s soccer team gets a win and a tie over the weekend
The women’s soccer team earned its second win of the season vs. St. Francis Sunday. The Grizzlies came roaring back after trailing 1-0 with four-second half goals. Kyla Kellermann scored her team-leading fourth goal of the year while teammates Alice Palmer, Cecile Dokka and Claudia Krupicz each put one in.
Kellermann scored the game’s first goal, and was assisted by Katy Wagner. Of the 22 shots goalkeeper Stephanie Bukovec faced, one slipped by and dashed OU’s chance for the win. Karli Paracca scored for Kent State University in the 66th minute.
Softball holds annual Black and Gold game
The Black defeated the Gold Saturday afternoon 8-2. The Gold team did strike first, but the Black tied it up and didn’t look back scoring in 5 different innings. The Grizzlies were to start their fall season Sunday but OU closed the field due to bad conditions.
Oakland Football Club wins Homecoming Game
The football club at Oakland University won their homecoming game 27-26 versus Wisconsin-Milwaukee Saturday Sept. 20. Quarterback Justin Mills led the way with 122 passing yards, adding 94 on the ground. He finished the game with three total touchdowns and was named MVP.
