Veteran Support Services will be hosting an end-of-the-year golf outing on Monday, April 30. The outing will be hosted at Pine Trace Golf Club, located at 3600 Pine Trace Boulevard in Rochester Hills. The event will last from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The event is being held to raise money for Veteran Support Services at Oakland University, located in 116 North Foundation Hall. These services include free printing, networking events for veterans and, if possible, helping student veterans purchase their textbooks for class.

“The event is open to anyone, not just Oakland students,” OU veteran representative Kyle McIntosh said. “We are hoping for a really great turn out. I’m very excited that we have such great sponsors that are allowing us to offer this full day of events at such a low price.”

It costs $90 to register for the outing, which can be done on the Veteran Support Services website. All sales are final. Registration is open until April 23. Participants can register individually or in groups to ensure a spot as well.

The outing will include a continental breakfast served from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and a dinner served at 3:30 p.m. Golfing will begin at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. There will be two contest holes—Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin. This will all be covered by the $90 registration fee.

An awards ceremony will be held along with dinner, honoring veterans in the Oakland community.  

“This event is meant to be a fun and affordable,” McIntosh said. “But it’s also an important chance to honor our men and women of service.”

Each participant will be able to golf one full round (18 holes) for the $90 price.

Members of the OU community are encouraged to participate, regardless of their golf experience, as there will be things for everyone to enjoy.

“We’re giving out tons of prizes,” McIntosh said. “We have contests for best foursome, worst foursome, longest drive, closest to the pin and a few others. We encourage anyone who wants to support the cause to sign up.”
