Phi Sigma Pi book drive

Oakland University fraternity Phi Sigma Pi wants to get kids in need some books to read.

The Oakland chapter of the fraternity, named the Eta Eta chapter, has been an official chapter since December 2, 2016, after being started as a colony in September of the same year.

Phi Sigma Pi has been a fraternity with chapters across the country since 1916. The Oakland chapter is a gender-inclusive fraternity.

Tara Schmidt is the president of the Eta Eta chapter of Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity at Oakland University.

“The book drive is going on now and ends Nov. 2.” said Schmidt. “We are looking for any books that people have of any kind. There is nothing specifically limited or anything that we won’t take for our book drive.”

The book drive isn’t just going to any one person. Instead, the books are being donated to a charity, to give the books to those in need.

“The book drive is purely for charity,” said Schmidt. “We will be donating all of the books we receive to the Better World Books.”

As for the fraternity, Schmidt gave high praise to what a great environment she feels it is for students at Oakland.

“We currently have 20 members and will be inducting 10 new members in November,” said Schmidt. “Personally, I have met some of the best people I know by joining Phi Sigma Pi.”

“We have a ton of fun doing things like fellowship dinners at Buffalo Wild Wings or making dog toys out of old t-shirts to donate to the humane society, it is a brotherhood,” said Schmidt. “We value leadership, scholarship, and most of all fellowship.”
