Wright State rallies in fourth to beat Oakland women’s basketball

The score was 51-50 Wright State after the third quarter. The previous two periods had been fought to similarly slim margins.

But Oakland women’s basketball (14-11, 6-8) slipped in the fourth as the Wright State Raiders (20-6, 10-3) went on a 10-0 run to close out a 79-63 victory the night of Thursday, Feb. 18 in the Nutter Center.

Elena Popkey led the Golden Grizzlies with 26 points, her season-high, shooting 10-for-19 from the field and 5-for-8 from behind the arc while grabbing six rebounds.

Taylor Gleason and Nicole Dodd shot for nine points, all of Dodd’s nine coming from 3-point range. Gleason dished four assists and got four rebounds, three of them offensive; Dodd managed three rebounds.

Nola Anderson and Sidney Santos captured seven boards each, a career-high for Santos, a redshirt freshman.

Kim Demmings shot 34 points for the Raiders, seizing seven rebounds along the way. She shot 12-for-31 from the field and 3-for-11 behind the arc.

Antania Hayes took nine rebounds and made 13 points, shooting 6-for-17 from the field.

Richelle van der Keijl grabbed 11 boards, six of them offensive, and scored ten points.

Symone Denham scored six and took seven boards.

Five of Lexi Smith’s eleven rebounds were offensive. She scored five points.
