Oakland University named John O. Young the new associate vice president of communications and marketing Wednesday, according to a press release from the university.

“He’s joining us at a critical juncture in the university’s history, as we’re about to take the next important steps toward solidifying Oakland’s image as a world class institution of higher education. John’s leadership will go a long way toward helping us achieve new heights of recognition and stature,” Eric Barritt, vice president for development, alumni and community engagement, said in a press release.

Before coming to OU, Young served as vice president of marketing for Northwood University. He also served as vice president and chief marketing, enrollment and government relations officer at Walsh College for eight years.

Young earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in marketing from the University of Michigan in 1982 and his Master of Business Administration from Wayne State University in 1984. His wife, Melinda, is an OU alumna.
